Central African Republic independent and self-employed activity in 2026

The official sources reviewed do not publish a standalone freelancer visa or general self-employment immigration program.

Labour Code No. 09.004 is still relevant because it clarifies one important boundary: the Code excludes independent workers from its employment-law scope. That means a genuine independent worker is not treated as an employee under that Code merely because they perform economic activity.

It does not mean that a foreign freelancer is exempt from immigration, tax, commercial or sector rules.

Labour-law exclusion is not an immigration exemption

The distinction can be summarized this way:

  • an employee may be subject to the Labour Code's employment-contract approval rules;
  • a genuine independent worker is outside that employee framework; but
  • a foreign independent worker still needs a lawful basis for entry and stay and may need business or professional authorization for the activity.

ReloTide therefore does not convert the labour-law exclusion into a fictional "freelancer visa."

Business formalities can still apply

An independent professional operating locally may need to formalize an enterprise, register for tax, obtain a professional or commercial authorization, or comply with sector rules depending on the activity.

The Ministry of Finance's private-sector guide is useful for business-law orientation, but incorporation or registration is not itself an immigration permission.

Which entry visa?

The Embassy's current long-stay form includes business and work among the listed travel purposes and describes long stay as 45–90 days. It does not publish a dedicated self-employed category with automatic work rights.

A self-employed applicant should describe the actual activity accurately and confirm the proper visa and any activity authorization with the competent post.

See long-stay visas.

Residence beyond the entry period

Current fiscal law recognizes temporary, ordinary and privileged residence cards, but detailed eligibility rules are not comprehensively published online. Do not assume business registration automatically yields a residence card.

Employee versus contractor risk

Calling a relationship "freelance" does not necessarily decide its legal character. Where a foreign person is in substance recruited as a worker, the foreign-employment rules may apply. Obtain local advice for borderline arrangements.
