Dominican Republic permanent residence

DGM maintains a Permanent Residence process for foreign residents who have completed the required qualifying residence history.

Residence-history requirement

The current DGM permanent-residence checklist states that the applicant must have the first temporary-residence card plus four renewals. This is the practical requirement published on the service page and should be checked again before filing because residence rules can change.

Supporting evidence

The government checklist includes identity documentation, a Dominican criminal-record certificate, proof of economic solvency and, where necessary, a guarantee policy and medical examinations.

Permanent residence is not the only investor path

Qualifying investors may have access to a separate Investor Permanent Residence category that is specifically designed for foreign investment and should not be confused with the standard progression route.

Citizenship is separate

Permanent residence does not itself equal Dominican citizenship. Naturalization is governed by separate rules and procedures.
