Dominican Republic Temporary Residence (RT-9)

The RT-9 Temporary Residence is a one-year residence permit for a foreign national who intends to establish temporary residence in the Dominican Republic and meets the DGM requirements.

Residence visa first

DGM lists a Residence Visa (RS) as a core prerequisite. The applicant must also show the entry stamp after the residence visa was granted.

Core evidence

The official checklist includes a passport with at least six months' validity, legalized or apostilled birth and civil-status documents where required, criminal-record evidence, photographs, a guarantee policy, medical examinations and proof of economic solvency.

Family connection

DGM guidance confirms that a foreign spouse of a Dominican citizen may apply through RT-9 after obtaining the appropriate RS residence visa and meeting the residence requirements. The exact evidence and solvency rules depend on the case.

Remote work and entrepreneurship

RT-9 is a residence category, not a dedicated digital-nomad or startup visa. Applicants planning to work, freelance or run a company should separately confirm whether their economic activity requires another authorization or a different route.

Progression

RT-9 can form part of the path toward permanent residence, subject to the required residence history and DGM rules.
