Georgia family reunification residence in 2026
Georgia provides a D4 immigration-visa category for family reunification and a separate residence permit for qualifying family members of a foreigner who holds Georgian residence.
D4 visa
The Legal Status of Aliens law identifies D4 as the immigration-visa category for family reunification.
Visa eligibility and residence eligibility are related but distinct questions. A family member may need the appropriate visa or lawful-stay basis before the residence application.
Family-reunification residence permit
The State Services Development Agency states that a residence permit for family reunification is issued to family members of an alien holding a residence permit.
The application requires proof of the qualifying family relationship and the main holder's residence status, alongside the standard application, travel-document and lawful-stay evidence.
Financial evidence
SDA allows money held in a personal bank account to be used as financial evidence in appropriate cases.
Taking account of the requested permit term, the monthly amount should not be less than twice the minimum subsistence level for the average consumer in Georgia.
The exact evidence should be checked against the current SDA list at filing.
Processing options
SDA currently publishes 30-, 20- and 10-calendar-day processing options with different service fees.
These are official service options, not guaranteed end-to-end immigration timelines in every fact pattern.
Work rights are not automatically identical
A family-reunification residence permit should not be assumed to give every dependant the same labour-market position as the principal holder.
Georgia's 2026 right-to-work system is separate. A family member who intends to work or conduct covered self-employed activity should check whether a separate right-to-work decision or exemption applies.
Main-holder route matters
The principal applicant's underlying route may be:
- work residence;
- IT residence;
- investment residence;
- property short-term residence; or
- another Georgian residence basis.
Some routes contain their own family provisions, so the most direct family basis can depend on the principal permit.
Family of Georgian citizens
Permanent-residence rules for certain close family members of Georgian citizens are separate from ordinary family reunification for a foreign residence holder. See permanent and indefinite residence.
