Remote Work Long-Stay Visa in Latvia in 2026

Latvia's remote-work route is a long-stay visa, not a Latvian employment residence permit.
Who can use it
PMLP states that a third-country national may request the visa when the person is employed by an employer registered in an OECD member state, or is self-employed and registered in an OECD member state, and the work can be performed remotely from Latvia.
For an employee, current PMLP guidance requires official employment evidence and confirmation of at least 6 months of prior employment with that employer. A self-employed applicant must document qualifying self-employed income for the preceding six months.
2026 income and insurance thresholds
The PMLP page published in June 2026 gives a current monthly remuneration/income threshold of at least EUR 4,538, based on 2.5 times the prior-year average monthly gross salary.
Health insurance must be valid in Latvia and the Schengen area with insurer liability of at least EUR 42,600.
Duration and work rights
The visa may be issued for one year. PMLP expressly states that holders do not have the right to employment in Latvia.
