EU Blue Card in Slovakia — January 2025
The EU Blue Card is Slovakia's specialized residence route for highly qualified employment.
January 2025 rules
Act No. 160/2024 rewrote Slovakia's Blue Card framework before this snapshot. Under the rules effective on 2 January 2025, a Blue Card could be granted for five years, or for the shorter validity of the qualifying vacancy confirmation plus 90 days, without exceeding five years.
Highly qualified employment generally required higher professional qualification and monthly pay of at least 1.2 times the average monthly wage in the Slovak economy for the preceding calendar year. A lower threshold equal to the average monthly wage applied in the statutory recent-graduate case.
The employer/labour-office confirmation process remained part of the route. This is distinct from ordinary Employment Temporary Residence and from the separate Highly Qualified National Visa.
