Brunei Immigration publishes a Long-Term Professional Visit Pass for foreign experts and professionals whose expertise is beneficial and required for the country's progress and development.

This is distinct from both the ordinary employer Work Pass and the short project-based Professional Visit Visa.

Who is it for?

The public Immigration page describes the category broadly as being for foreign experts/professionals whose expertise is useful and needed for Brunei's development.

It does not publish a universal salary threshold, fixed validity period, occupation list or points system. Applicants are directed to the Long Term Pass Secretariat for the detailed form and eligibility assessment.

Employment Work Pass versus long-term professional pass

The ordinary Employment Work Pass uses the Labour Department foreign-worker framework, including employer quota/licence and Work Pass Recommendation.

The long-term professional category is presented separately by Immigration as a specialist route. The sponsoring organisation and Immigration should classify the actual role rather than the applicant choosing a label.

Short project versus long-term role

The Department of Labour's current handbook defines a Professional Visit Visa as project-based expert/professional work for less than 3 months.

A longer specialist role should be compared with this long-term category and the ordinary employment route, depending on the facts.

Remote work

This is not a general remote-worker visa. The official description requires expertise that is beneficial and needed for Brunei, rather than simply permitting any foreign professional to live in Brunei while working online.

Permanent residence

Current PR rules are category-based and do not publish an automatic conversion from Long-Term Professional Visit Pass to Entry Permit status.
