Burkina Faso Long-Stay Visa and Residence Permit in 2026

Visa Burkina defines a long-stay visa as a visa valid for more than 90 days.

Its stay-conditions guidance also states that a foreigner who wants to stay in Burkina Faso for more than 90 days must hold qualifying long-stay or residence documentation.

Long-stay application documents

The current official long-stay page lists:

  • valid passport;
  • completed, dated and signed application form;
  • two recent identity photos;
  • proof of the reason for the long stay;
  • medical certificate showing the applicant does not have a contagious disease;
  • certificate of support in Burkina Faso or proof of sufficient income for the duration of stay;
  • health-insurance certificate covering the stay; and
  • stamp-duty payment receipt.

The actual purpose—business, study, training, cooperation or another accepted basis—must also be supported.

Long-stay business visa fee

The official current tariff lists the long-stay business visa at 187,000 CFA francs.

It also lists conference/study/training/visit at 110,000 CFA francs and cooperation at 77,000 CFA francs.

A fee payment does not guarantee approval.

Multiple-entry long-stay visa

Visa Burkina states that a multiple-entry long-stay visa is treated as a travel visa and that total stays cannot exceed 90 days per semester.

Applicants should not infer that every multi-entry long-stay visa authorizes continuous residence throughout its validity.

Resident long-stay and residence permit

The official migration-service filing page states that after in-person processing:

  • a person who applied for a long-stay visa may receive a visa in the passport; or
  • a person who applied for a resident long-stay visa may receive a residence permit.

This is the clearest current official distinction between travel/stay visas and resident documentation.

Renewal timing

Visa Burkina says a foreigner staying in the territory must renew the visa within the seven clear days preceding its expiration and must go physically to the migration service for renewal.

Confirm the current filing location and required originals before the expiry window.

ECOWAS nationals

The official stay-conditions page states that nationals of ECOWAS member countries are exempt from the residence permit, while requiring a valid consular identity card.

That exception concerns residence documentation. It should not be expanded into a blanket exemption from labour, commercial or other regulatory rules.

Work and business remain separate

A long-stay visa or residence permit does not automatically authorize employment.

Employees should read the work-permit guide. Business founders should review the business/entrepreneur guide.
