Curaçao self-employed / sole-proprietor residence — January 2025 snapshot
Curaçao's official immigration guidance recognizes an own-company / sole proprietorship route. For many freelancers and owner-operators who will work locally, this is the relevant framework rather than the remote-worker short-stay category.
Business permission and residence are separate
The immigration authority says a person starting an own company needs a business permit and a residence permit. After the business permit, the business is registered with the Chamber of Commerce and labor register before the residence application is submitted.
The government establishment-permit page separately warns that a Vestigingsvergunning does not automatically grant a residence permit, work permit, or other operating authorization.
Founder and freelancer mapping
The reviewed January-2025 official framework does not publish a separate startup-founder visa. A founder operating as a sole proprietor may fit this own-business route; a larger investment may instead raise the distinct Wealthy Investor policy. Corporate structure, licensing and immigration status should not be conflated.
