Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents Scheme in Hong Kong in 2026

The Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents (ASSG) is a narrow family-root admission route. It is not a broad ancestry visa.

Core eligibility

Applicants must generally be 18 to 40, have been born overseas outside the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and have at least one parent who holds a valid Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card at the time of application and was a Chinese national settled overseas when the applicant was born.

Applicants also need a good educational background, normally a first degree or strong technical/professional credentials, proficiency in written and spoken Chinese or English, and adequate financial means without relying on public assistance.

ASSG is not a substitute for proving existing Hong Kong right of abode or another resident status; people who may already hold status should establish that first.

Practical safeguards

Immigration approval is discretionary. Immigration permission does not replace company, employment, tax, investment, professional-licensing or other regulatory requirements.
