Grenada work permit for employment and self-employment
A Grenada work permit is the formal authorization allowing a foreign national to work under the conditions approved by the Ministry responsible for Labour.
Employer-sponsored employment
The Department of Labour says employers seeking to hire foreign nationals must comply with both employment and immigration law. A new application includes the prescribed form, passport and arrival evidence, photographs, an employer letter, police clearance, proof of qualifications, professional references, financial evidence, business-registration material, tax and National Insurance compliance, and any professional registration required for regulated occupations.
The official guide explains that a permit is issued for a specified foreign national, employer and occupation or profession and may carry conditions.
Self-employed applicants
The published checklist expressly allows the financial-evidence requirement to be met by the foreign national if self-employed. This makes the work-permit framework relevant to independent professionals and owner-operators who will actually work in Grenada.
That does not create a separate "freelancer visa" or "startup visa." A founder who incorporates a company but personally performs work should verify the work-permit requirements instead of assuming company ownership confers work rights.
Remote work
Grenada's official sources reviewed here do not publish a dedicated digital-nomad visa. Diplomatic guidance states that a visa holder is not authorized to work in Grenada without Labour permission. Anyone working remotely from Grenada should obtain case-specific confirmation about whether a work permit is required.
Renewals
The Department of Labour instructs applicants to submit renewal applications before the existing permit expires and requires updated employer, passport, tax and National Insurance documentation.
