Macroenterprise Investor Residence in Panama in 2026

Panama's Inversionista de Macroempresa immigration category is aimed at a foreign investor in an operating Panamanian enterprise. Panama Digital's SNM procedure requires a minimum of B/.160,000 share capital per applicant, with the applicant a shareholder and officer/director in the qualifying enterprise. Evidence must establish ownership of the shares corresponding to that minimum.

Five local employees are part of the immigration case

The enterprise must maintain five full-time Panamanian employees per applicant at no less than the applicable legal minimum wage. Corporate records, the notice of operation, payroll and Caja de Seguro Social compliance are substantive requirements. A passive shelf company with no qualifying staffing does not meet the government description of this category.

Business rights require more than incorporation

Capital contribution, company management, permission to reside, any applicable MITRADEL labor authorization, professional licensing, tax registration and social-security compliance are distinct issues. A foreign founder should check the actual planned role rather than infer that director status automatically creates an unrestricted local work right. Dependant applications have separate relationship and financial-support requirements.

Compare founder structures

If the project will employ five Panamanian staff, this category may warrant comparison with Panamá-Pacífico investment, which is tied to the designated special economic area, and Qualified Investor residence, which has its own legally specified investment options. Do not substitute investment amounts across these programmes.
