Barbados Special Entry Permit (SEP / SERP) in 2026

The Barbados Immigration Department currently publishes a Special Entry Permit (SEP) application pathway. Invest Barbados materials also use the expanded label “Special Entry and Residency Permit (SERP).” For legal/planning purposes, start with the Immigration Department's current Special Entry Permit requirements rather than relying on an adviser-created investment chart.

Who is it for?

Invest Barbados describes the SEP as a relocation option for high-net-worth individuals and their dependants. Its official investment brochure says eligible HNWIs aged 60 and over may receive the SEP on an indefinite basis, while eligible applicants under 60 may receive a defined term. It also says there is no obligation to live in Barbados continuously and that a work permit carries an extra cost.

The current Immigration Department page itself does not publish age-band fees, a universal property minimum, or a universal net-worth/investment threshold. Those numbers are widely repeated by private advisers, but ReloTide will not present them as current official requirements without a live government source.

Official documents

Immigration currently lists:

  • Form B for each applicant;
  • two recent passport-size photographs;
  • birth certificate;
  • marriage / prior marriage / death documentation where applicable;
  • passport bio-data page;
  • police certificates from every country where the applicant lived at least six months during the previous three years (Enhanced Disclosure for British applicants in lieu of PCC);
  • title deeds and latest land-tax bills;
  • proof of financial resources such as bank statements, pension documents or real estate;
  • health insurance valid in Barbados;
  • dependant relationship evidence; and
  • English translations for non-English documents under the Department's stated translation rules.

Fee

The published Immigration Department application fee is BDS $300. The public page reviewed does not state a universal final permit fee schedule for every possible SEP case.

Work rights

Do not treat SEP/SERP as an automatic open work permit. Invest Barbados expressly says the programme lets HNWIs live and/or do business in Barbados but that a work permit carries an extra cost. If you will actively work in Barbados, confirm the required work permit and its conditions.

Property and “investor visa” claims

The official checklist asks for title deeds, land-tax bills and proof of real-estate/financial resources, so property can be relevant evidence. But the current Immigration page does not publish a single “buy a property worth X and get Barbados residency” threshold.

Barbados therefore should not be marketed as a simple statutory golden visa based only on a number copied from secondary sites. Obtain written confirmation from Immigration before committing capital based on a claimed SEP threshold.

Retirees

There is no separate Immigration Department page titled “retirement visa.” Older/high-net-worth applicants may fit the SEP or Immigrant Status, whose current checklist specifically asks people over 60 for means of support, income and proof of property. Choose the legal status based on the actual facts rather than the search phrase “Barbados retirement visa.”

Family

The SEP checklist expressly allows dependant evidence, and Invest Barbados describes dependants as part of the programme. Relationship documents must be produced. Work rights should be confirmed separately for each family member.

Permanent residence and citizenship

SEP is not the same page or process as Barbados Permanent Resident Status or Immigrant Status. Do not assume a special permit automatically converts after a fixed period unless Immigration confirms the applicable route.
