Barbados Student Visa in 2026
Barbados Immigration states that a non-immigrant student who wants to pursue study in Barbados must apply for a student visa before entering the island. The documentary process differs for minors and adults, but both are built around an approved/registered Barbados educational institution and proof of adequate support.
Core forms and institution evidence
The current process uses:
- Form H-1, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Student Status, completed by the enrolling school and certified by the Ministry of Education; and
- Form H-2, completed by the student or parent/guardian as applicable.
CARICOM nationals under 16 have stated exceptions from H-1/H-2 on the minor checklist.
Minors
Current minor requirements include birth certificate, two photographs, notarized parental consent where applicable, passport bio-data page, adequate financial support and a letter of acceptance from a school registered/chartered by the Ministry of Education.
The application fee is BDS $300. When the application and financial evidence are satisfactory, Immigration says a student visa is issued for three years and the guardian/parent/agent is informed within 60 working days of acceptance of the application.
Adults
Adults must also provide police certificates from each country where they lived at least six months during the previous three years, plus course/timetable information, accommodation evidence and the institution documents. Financial evidence must cover tuition and living expenses.
Immigration describes a provisional stage followed by final student status for the remainder of the proposed study duration after favourable security clearance and financial review. It also gives a 60-working-day notification target after an acceptable submission.
Renewal
The current renewal checklist uses Form H-3 plus passport copy, photo, previous student permit, current student report and (for minors) evidence of the parent/guardian's Barbados status. The published renewal application fee is BDS $300.
Changing school
A student changing institution must first obtain a new student visa for the new institution. Immigration asks for evidence of discontinuance from the former school plus the new acceptance letter and the normal supporting documents.
Work rights
The current student-visa guidance reviewed does not publish a blanket right to take employment. Students should therefore confirm whether a separate work permit or other authorization is required before paid or unpaid work. Do not assume study status is an open work permit.
