Cambodia Immigration for Remote Workers, Freelancers, Founders and Investors in 2026

Cambodia uses several separate layers for people who want to work, freelance, start a company or invest: entry visa, extension of stay, labour authorization, business/tax registration and investment-project status. They should not be collapsed into one generic "business visa."

Main routes

| Goal | Route to investigate | Key distinction | | --- | --- | --- | | Enter for business/ordinary purposes | Type E ordinary/business visa | Initial entry permission; official e-Visa Type E is now available online to all countries | | Stay longer for business/freelance activity | EB business extension | In-country extension; not the initial visa | | Work in Cambodia | Foreign work permit and employment card | Labour authorization is separate from visa/extension | | Work remotely or freelance | Remote worker and freelancer options | No dedicated digital-nomad visa found; E/EB/work-permit framework must be assessed | | Operate a qualifying registered investment project | QIP investor temporary long-term stay | Investment-law rights are project-linked and temporary | | Register a company | Business registration and investor setup | Incorporation/tax/QIP registration do not themselves create immigration status |

Type E is now easier to access online

The official Cambodia e‑Visa service announced on 31 August 2026 that Visa Type E is available electronically for applicants from all countries. The current portal lists a USD 35 fee, single entry, 3-month validity from issue and an initial one-month stay.

That entry visa is only the beginning of the longer-term framework.

EB extension for founders and freelancers

The official CDC investing handbook describes the EB business extension for people working in Cambodia, people starting businesses and freelancers. It also says foreigners who work must obtain a work permit and foreign employment card.

No dedicated digital-nomad visa

Current official Cambodian visa materials do not publish a standalone digital-nomad visa. ReloTide therefore does not market tourist status as permission to work or invent a remote-work exemption that the government has not published.

Investors and QIPs

Article 22 of Cambodia's Law on Investment gives qualifying registered-project investors rights to request temporary long-term stay for themselves, spouse and minor children while the investment project operates, and similar support for qualifying foreign employees/families during employment.

That is different from simply forming a company and is not automatic permanent residence or citizenship.

Company setup

The Ministry of Commerce operates an online business registry, while tax registration is handled separately by the General Department of Taxation. CDC states that there is no general local-equity participation requirement merely to establish a business, but land ownership and sector licensing have separate rules.
