Cayman Islands remote worker and digital nomad options in 2026
The official Cayman Islands immigration sources reviewed for September 2026 do not publish an active dedicated digital-nomad or Global Citizen residence route.
The former Global Citizen programme was a pandemic-era immigration facility. Historic regulations and old pages can still appear in searches, but they should not be presented as proof that a new applicant can obtain the same programme today.
Do not equate visitor status with ongoing remote-work permission
Current official material distinguishes visitors, work-permit holders, business visitors and other immigration facilities. The sources reviewed do not publish a general rule saying an ordinary visitor may carry on unrestricted ongoing remote occupational activity from Cayman simply because the employer or clients are abroad.
Where the facts sit outside a clearly published exemption, a remote professional should obtain current guidance from WORC or Customs & Border Control rather than rely on a tourist-status assumption.
Visitor's Work Visa is narrow
Customs & Border Control publishes a Visitor's Work Visa facility for certain visitors who are employed full time outside the Cayman Islands, come to Cayman to perform qualifying commercial activity for a Cayman sponsor, and need the facility for no more than five calendar days initially.
The current page states a CI$100 filing fee and imposes sponsor and eligibility conditions. It is not a general digital-nomad visa and should not be treated as an open-ended remote-work stay.
Alternatives depend on the real activity
A person who does not need Cayman employment and can meet substantial financial criteria may investigate independent-means residency.
A person who will run or manage a qualifying Cayman business should compare direct investment and substantial business presence.
A person employed locally generally needs the work-permit route.
