MERCOSUR Reciprocity Residence in Chile in 2026
Chile's current SERMIG framework includes a temporary-residence subcategory based on MERCOSUR reciprocity.
Eligible nationalities
SERMIG currently states that this route is for citizens of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay under the agreement involving MERCOSUR States Parties, Bolivia and Chile.
The application is filed from outside Chile through SERMIG's digital portal. Applicants must satisfy the official identity, background and documentation requirements applicable to the route.
Why it matters for founders and professionals
This route is nationality-based rather than being tied to an investment threshold or a specific employer. Eligible entrepreneurs and professionals should nevertheless separately comply with Chile's rules governing business formation, tax registration, employment, contracting and regulated professions.
It should not be confused with International Agreements Residence, which covers other treaties and agreement-specific categories, or Investor Residence, which has its own investment conditions.
