Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa in 2026

The Migration Department is once again accepting applications under the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa Scheme. The maximum number of permits remains 500.

The route is for nationals outside the EU and EEA who can work location-independently using telecommunications technology.

Who can qualify

The official scheme covers people who:

  • work remotely for a company registered abroad; or
  • are self-employed and provide remote services to companies or clients located abroad; and
  • can prove stable and sufficient net monthly income of at least €3,500 after contributions and taxes.

The route is not a permit to take ordinary local employment in Cyprus.

Family members

A spouse or civil-union partner and minor children can obtain residence for the same period as the Digital Nomad. Under the scheme, those family members do not have the right to be employed or perform economic activity in Cyprus on that dependant status.

Applicants should not assume that family residence equals local work permission.

Duration and renewal

The first Digital Nomad residence permit is issued for one year. A renewal can be issued for a maximum of two years.

Applications are submitted through the Migration Department in Nicosia. The official page states that an applicant should apply within three months of arrival, and renewal should be filed at least one month before expiry.

Fees and processing

The current official page lists:

  • temporary residence permit issue or renewal: €70;
  • Aliens' Registry registration on first registration: €70;
  • stated examination time: approximately 5–7 weeks for a complete application.

These are administrative figures, not a guarantee that every case will finish within that period.

Tax is a separate analysis

The immigration scheme's official material discusses tax residence, but immigration permission and tax residence should be analysed separately. Spending time in Cyprus can create tax consequences depending on the tax rules and the individual's wider facts.

Do not treat the Digital Nomad permit as automatic non-dom status, automatic tax residence, or a tax exemption.

Not a path to local employment by itself

If the real objective is employment by a Cyprus company, compare the Company of Foreign Interests route, EU Blue Card, or general GEN employment.
