Cyprus family reunification in 2026

Cyprus family reunification allows qualifying family members of certain third-country nationals already legally residing in Cyprus to enter and reside for family unity.

It is only one family framework. Family members of Cypriot citizens, EU/EEA citizens, Blue Card holders, Company of Foreign Interests employees and Digital Nomads may have different or modified rules.

Standard sponsor conditions

For the general third-country-national family-reunification route, the Migration Department says the sponsor normally must:

  • have resided legally in Cyprus for at least two years;
  • hold a residence permit valid for at least one year; and
  • have a reasonable prospect of obtaining permanent residence.

The official rules contain exceptions for specified categories such as certain Company of Foreign Interests employees, researchers and intra-corporate transferees.

Which family members are covered

The general route covers, subject to the statutory conditions:

  • the sponsor's spouse, with the published marriage-duration and age rules; and
  • qualifying minor children, including specified adopted children and children under sole custody.

The official general rule requires the spouse to be at least 21 and the marriage to have taken place at least one year before the family-reunification application.

Minor children must generally be under 18 and unmarried.

Entry permit and residence application

Family members normally need an entry permit for family reunification before entering Cyprus for that purpose.

The Migration Department specifically warns that a tourist visa is not normally a substitute for family-reunification entry, although special exceptions can apply to family members of qualifying employees of approved companies.

After arrival, the family member registers and obtains the residence permit under the published procedure.

Work rights are category-specific

Do not assume every dependant can work automatically. Work rights depend on the sponsor's category and the family member's permit.

For example, Digital Nomad dependants are expressly barred from employment or economic activity under that dependant status, while other family categories may operate differently.
