Employment Temporary Residence in North Macedonia

North Macedonia does not publish a separate generic "skilled worker visa" in the Tier-1 sources used for this January 2025 snapshot. The core route is temporary residence for work, with the Employment Service Agency (ESARM) involved in work-eligibility procedures.

Employment basis

ESARM states that it gives an opinion on eligibility for issuance of a temporary residence permit for work purposes for employment of a foreign citizen. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists work as a temporary-residence purpose.

Residence, work permission and the D visa are different steps

A work-related residence decision is not the same document as an entry visa. Where a long-stay visa is required, the MFA says the D visa is applied for after a Ministry of Interior decision granting temporary residence. ESARM separately administers work-permit functions under the foreign-employment framework.

This route should be used for genuine local employment, not for foreign-source remote work. Tier-1 sources reviewed for this snapshot do not identify a dedicated North Macedonia digital-nomad visa.
