Long-Term EU Resident in Poland in 2026
The EU long-term resident permit is Poland's principal general settlement route for many third-country nationals with a sufficiently long qualifying residence history.
Five-year qualifying period
As a rule, the applicant needs at least 5 years of legal and uninterrupted qualifying residence in Poland immediately before applying.
Not every stay is counted equally. Study-related residence generally counts at one-half. Special aggregation rules apply to EU Blue Card holders, including qualifying residence in other EU Member States where the statutory conditions are met.
Language and resources
Applicants generally need officially accepted proof of Polish language knowledge at at least B1, subject to statutory exceptions, plus stable and regular income, health insurance and a legal title to their dwelling.
Indefinite status, five-year card
The residence status itself is indefinite. The residence card is issued for 5 years and can be replaced when it expires.
This should not be confused with Poland's national permanent-residence permit, which is reserved for narrower statutory categories.
