Scientific Research in Czechia in 2026
The long-term residence permit for scientific research is designed for third-country researchers carrying out qualifying research activity in Czechia.
The permit can be valid for a maximum of 2 years and can be extended repeatedly, with each extension subject to the applicable statutory maximum.
Researchers in this category have free access to the labour market. After completing the research activity, eligible researchers can move to the residence permit for seeking employment or starting a business.
Research residence is distinct from ordinary employment, the Employee Card and the EU Blue Card, even where the underlying activity is remunerated.
