Guest Self-Employment in Hungary in 2026
The guest self-employment residence permit is Hungary's main immigration category for qualifying third-country nationals conducting self-employed or business activity under this legal title.
Validity
The initial document can be valid for up to 1 year. It can be extended for the same purpose for a period of up to 2 years, but the total period cannot exceed 3 years from first issuance.
Family and settlement
For the first 1 year after issuance, family reunification is restricted, subject to the specific exceptions in the law. OIF also states that guest self-employment holders may not obtain a national residence card.
Status is not the whole business setup
The immigration permit does not replace Hungarian company, trade, tax, accounting or social-security requirements. A person choosing a company structure or self-employed activity should separately verify the business-law and tax consequences.
Current rules also restrict changing from this status to some other residence titles from inside Hungary.
