Cross-Border Service Provider (GDL) in Liechtenstein — January 2025 snapshot

The GDL cross-border services framework governs temporary and occasional service provision into Liechtenstein by foreign businesses and qualifying self-employed providers.

EEA and Swiss service providers

For providers established in the EEA or Switzerland, the official framework can cover self-employed sole proprietors as well as posted employees. Depending on sector and duration, business registration, professional-qualification, notification and migration requirements may apply.

For EEA-based service provision up to 90 days in a calendar year, the Migration and Passport Office describes a right of presence for the service period, subject to the required notifications and business-law steps.

Third-country businesses

Companies established outside the EEA or Switzerland face additional authorization conditions under Liechtenstein foreign-national and trade law. Access is not automatic.

Not an immigration residence route

GDL is temporary market access, not residence. It does not create a digital-nomad, freelancer, entrepreneur, startup-founder or investor residence visa. A company registration or trade authorization also does not itself grant immigration status.
