EEA Cross-Border Commuter Registration (GMB) in Liechtenstein — January 2025 snapshot
The GMB cross-border commuter registration is a core Liechtenstein work-mobility route for EEA nationals who keep their residence outside Liechtenstein.
Employment and self-employment
The official procedure expressly covers employed or self-employed EEA nationals whose place of work is in Liechtenstein and who normally return to their residence abroad each day. This can therefore be relevant to qualifying entrepreneurs or independent professionals, but it is not Liechtenstein residence.
The cross-border activity must be notified to the Migration and Passport Office within the official deadline after work begins. Employment cases are normally notified by the employer.
Not a residence visa
GMB does not give the holder a Liechtenstein home for immigration purposes and should not be marketed as a freelancer, startup-founder or digital-nomad visa. Business/trade licensing may apply separately to self-employed activity.
See the Liechtenstein hub, work visas, business visas, Europe, methodology, and legal disclaimer.
