Residence Permit (B) Without Gainful Employment in Liechtenstein — January 2025 snapshot

Liechtenstein has a B residence permit without gainful employment for applicants who can support themselves without social assistance and will not work in Liechtenstein.

EEA non-working lottery

Part of the EEA non-working quota is allocated through a twice-yearly lottery. The official lottery guidance states that participants in this category are prohibited from gainful employment in Liechtenstein, while gainful employment abroad is permitted.

That makes the category relevant to some people who earn income outside Liechtenstein, but it is not a digital-nomad visa or general remote-work visa. Eligibility still depends on nationality, quota/allocation rules, sufficient resources and the exact residence decision.

Swiss and third-country applicants

Swiss non-working residence is Government-allocated. Third-country residence without work is discretionary; Liechtenstein generally has no obligation to grant it and may consider national or public interests.

Local self-employment, startup activity or employment would conflict with the no-gainful-employment basis and can jeopardize the permit.
