Distributed-Presence Authorization in Letter Form (BIB) in Liechtenstein — January 2025 snapshot

Liechtenstein's BIB authorization in letter form is a non-resident work permission for workers who are not resident in the immediate border area and cannot use the ordinary cross-border commuter model.

Presence limit

The official BIB procedure provides a 12-month validity period with a maximum Liechtenstein presence of 180 days, provided the employment level meets the stated minimum. General visa rules remain separate.

Hybrid presence, not digital-nomad residence

BIB can look superficially like a hybrid-work solution because it allows distributed presence, but it is still tied to gainful employment and does not confer Liechtenstein residence. It is not a digital-nomad visa, freelancer visa or open remote-work permission.

Applicants who need full residence should compare the B employment permit or third-country skilled-worker B route.
