Short-Term Employment Residence Permit (L) in Liechtenstein — January 2025 snapshot
The L short-term residence permit is the employment-residence route for assignments that require residence in Liechtenstein for no more than 12 months.
Who it is for
The official procedure covers nationals who are gainfully employed in Liechtenstein, are not residing in the immediate border area, and cannot carry out the job as a cross-border commuter.
Applications must be filed before the planned start of work. The permit is temporary: when the L period expires, the holder must leave unless another lawful status has independently been obtained.
Nationality still matters
EEA/Swiss nationals and third-country nationals rely on different statutory bases, so the underlying admission test is not identical merely because both may receive an L permit.
The L permit is not a remote-work, freelance, startup or investor visa. For work without Liechtenstein residence, compare GMB, G, and BIB.
See the Liechtenstein hub, work visas, Europe, methodology, and legal disclaimer.
