Family Reunification in Lithuania in 2026

Lithuanian family reunification depends on the sponsor's status, residence history and family relationship.

From 22 May 2026, master's-level students, medical residents and doctoral students may bring qualifying family members immediately. The same immediate option applies to foreigners who completed studies in Lithuania and are applying for, or already hold, the post-study job-search residence permit.

For many other temporary residents, the general framework described by the Migration Department requires that the sponsor has already lived in Lithuania for 2 years, holds a temporary residence permit valid for at least 1 year, and has reasonable prospects of acquiring permanent residence.
