Studies and Student Work in Lithuania in 2026

Lithuania issues temporary residence permits for qualifying full-time study and doctoral programmes.

2026 work limits

For students covered by rules effective from 22 May 2026, first- and second-year bachelor students may work no more than 20 hours per week during study periods. Holidays and required practical training are excluded from that limit.

Third- and fourth-year bachelor students, master's students, doctoral students and medical residents may work up to 40 hours per week under the current framework.

The same reform introduced an 8-year maximum total period for temporary residence permits issued on the study basis for students covered by the new rules.

Study residence should not be presented as automatic permanent residence; separate long-term-residence counting and eligibility rules apply.
