Paraguay occasional residence

Residencia Espontánea u Ocasional is a distinct Law 6984/2022 status for foreigners entering Paraguay to carry out a lawful occasional activity. It is not the same as ordinary visitor permission and it is not a substitute for residence when the person intends to settle for a longer period.

Who the official route covers

DNM lists activities such as public performers; invited artists or professionals; internships; professional, academic, technical, research or scientific work; journalism; sport; and certain business, director, management and administrative assignments transferred from abroad for specific functions. The authorization is tied to the lawful activity declared in the application.

Duration and work scope

The status can be granted for up to 90 days and may be extended for an equal period within the year. Its benefit is authorization to carry out the lawful activity for which the residence was granted during that period. It does not create an automatic path to permanent residence and is not a required precursor to general temporary residence.

Current fee

The DNM fee schedule effective 1 July 2026 lists the cash fee for occasional residence at Gs. 936,616 (eight daily wages). Electronic-payment totals are higher because card commissions and VAT are added. Fees are wage-indexed and should be rechecked at filing.

Documents and filing

The core published requirements include a valid passport/identity document, any required consular visa and MRE verification, evidence of lawful entry, and a sworn declaration of the profession/activity and temporary address. Foreign documents may require apostille/legalization and Spanish translation under the DNM rules.

DNM does not publish a guaranteed universal processing time on the route page; applicants should not rely on unofficial promises of same-day or fixed-day approval.
