Digital Nomad Provisional Identity in Uruguay in 2026
Uruguay's digital-nomad route operates through the Hoja de Identidad Provisoria framework rather than a conventional long-term residence visa.
Initial period and renewal
Government material describes an initial period of 180 days (six months) with the possibility of one further 180-day renewal. The route is designed for people working remotely for companies abroad or on their own account.
The current DNM application requires the identity document used for entry and a signed digital-nomad declaration. Renewal adds a valid Uruguayan identity document, criminal-record evidence and vaccination evidence under the published rules.
What it does not do
The digital-nomad permission is not ordinary authorisation for taking local Uruguayan employment. A person who decides to settle for longer can separately examine temporary or permanent residence.
